Theme Of The Weekend: Organization and Pup Lovin'

Written By Unknown on Monday, February 17, 2014 | 9:40 AM

Some weekends are just FUN and some weekends are pure work. And this weekend fell more in the latter category, but on the upside? We got a ton completed!

My Friday started off a little shaky ... I was a ball of nerves. I had my glucose retest and our 14-year old pup Drake had a big surgery planned. The roads were still pretty dicey due to last week's snowstorm, so Ian drove me to my appointment with Drake in the car and then was going to head over to the vet. Not long after he dropped me off, I found out the lab was closed for weather (thanks for the call, guys) so Ian came straight back to pick me back up. The silver lining was that I was there with him to drop Drake off for his appointment.

And pooh on the glucose test being postponed, but we made up for it by swinging me by Krispy Kreme. Take that, blood sugar.

I worked the rest of the day from home and we just waited on pins and needles to hear that our Drake was doing well in surgery!

We were able to pick him up at 5:00, and it was great to see him walking out to us with his tail wagging. The tumor removal was very serious and we are still waiting on biopsy results -- but in the meantime, we are just loving on him and giving him lots of rest and treats. His incision is about six inches long and he is in a cone, but that dog ... let me tell you, he is a trooper.

When we got him home, he was pretty out of it. He sat in an area of the house he never sits in and would go through spells of looking alarmed but then really calm. Ian and I sat right beside him and didn't move for the first hour or so. Finally, to get him to sleep, I downloaded a noise app on my phone and played beach waves for him (he loves the ocean). He laid his head down near the phone and finally went to sleep, curled up in a blanket.

Instead of a fancy Valentines dinner, we went with the tried and true Friday night tradition ... pizza. :) Ian also came home with some roses and a slice of strawberry cake for us to share. It was a no-brainer to stay at home and keep watch on our patient. Ian and I exchanged cards and I enjoyed a glass of my alcohol-removed red wine. :)

Oh - and our Moms sent us the very same Valentines card. Crazy, right?!

I know ya'll love seeing Ian's bedhead and Saturday morning it was definitely rocking. I do have to brag on him, he spent his snow days painting -- completely by himself -- the entire nursery. A coat of primer and two coats of pink later, and we have a room fit for a princess. We got so much more done in the nursery on Saturday and Sunday, and I can't wait to share more glimpes of it!

Last night it warmed my heart to see Drake camped out in our little lady's room. It's like he is already on guard for her.

Seeing this last night just made me realize how fortunate we are that he is in our lives. The surgery on Friday really had us nervous ... we had to go into it knowing that if anything happened, he lived a very long and happy life. We even said our "if this is it, buddy..." speeches, which left me a mess. Tears, tears, tears. I truly can't explain how thrilled I am to have him back in our house (and recovering great -- leaps and bounds every day!).

I want to thank you all again for all of the blog and Instagram comments as well as the personal emails and texts you have sent about Drake. I can't relay how much it touched me. Thank you for the love!
