A South Carolina Thanksgiving

Fashionably late.  That's what this recap is.

Thanksgiving this year was wonderful.  We spent our holiday with my family in Columbia, where I grew up.  It is so nice going back to our home.

As I mentioned in my post about our traditions, we headed out Thanksgiving day after our big 5-mile walk around the neighborhood and hit up Walgreens.  It's may be a random tradition, but it's a tradition nonetheless!

We do a big Thanksgiving dinner (I know many others do a late lunch ... we usually don't eat until 8 or so).  For the meal, I made roasted haricots verts with garlic and onions.  And yes, I love calling them haricots verts.

The boys carved the turkey while referring to a YouTube video about how to properly do so.  Too, too cute.  It was definitely one of the very best turkeys we have ever had!  Mom really knocked it out of the park this year.
   

I also made a chess pie.  Who can resist a pie that is basically sugar and butter?  I'll be sharing the recipe soon.
 

I put together a quick tablescape for us using magnolia branches, gold glittery curly twigs, some gold candles in hurricane vases, and a cornucopia that I stole from the breakfast room table.  The magnolia branches gave such a big punch to the table, and who can beat free table decor?!
 

And then it was time to EAT!  The roasted haricots verts looked delicious.  They were so easy!  I just tossed them with olive oil, a little balsamic, and a pinch of sugar and then roasted at 375 degrees.  I love the taste of roasted whole garlic cloves, too ... yummy.
  

We pulled out all the stops - turkey, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, stuffing, rolls, green beans, homemade applesauce, chess pie.  It was an amazing dinner!
  

Even Tipsy got to lick the gravy pourer clean, that lucky dawg!
  

The next day, the menfolk went golfing while we hit up some of the sales.  We did some damage at Loft, but how could you not when everything was 50% off in the entire store?!  We also sat down to share some sauvignon blanc before we girls went to go see Life Of Pi at the movie theater.  We all loved the movie and spent the rest of the evening giving our take on the end.
  

It was a truly beautiful Thanksgiving visit.
